THE MEANING OF COMMUNITY

It is not called the "Community Garden" for naught - folks come together to help make the garden more functional and to help each other out in all phases of gardening.

Earlier in the season helping hands aided in turning the compost bins and in setting up a pole bean trellis.

Today saw the installation of an additional water collection point thanks to fellow gardener Steve, who's friend donated two water barrels.  First to be added was a grid over the existing entrance, into which acrylic corrugated roofing sheets were screwed.  Then a gutter was installed, with a downspout leading to the water barrel.  The water barrel was set on a pallet so that the spout is easily accessible.  Now we'll await the rain to fill the barrel.

The second donated water barrel will be added to the water collection buckets already connected to the tool shed gutter downspout, giving us six water barrels in total.  Gardeners find it much easier to scoop water from these barrels as opposed to using the old farm hand pump to fill watering cans.  Plus they don't have to walk as far to get the water to their plots.  Gardening can be strenuous - the easier we can make it for our gardeners, the better.  Thank you, Steve, for your help with this project, and to those who provided help prepping the garden for the season.
